The citizens of Rudeville are too busy taking care of their own needs, while ignoring the needs of others. For them, Christmas is a time of getting, not giving. One little girl has grown sad, seeing the kindness they throw away. Hattie gets the big guy involved–Santa–and tries to show the Rudies what they have discarded is the greatest gift they could ever receive.
How Hattie Helped the Holiday is told in Suess-like rhyme, for children and adults. It does satirize our society, and its content, although not inappropriate for any reader, might need an adult’s hand in explanation.
